Dispatch #2 - Step by Step and North Star Moments

When you are building a new business, the amount of tasks to do is overwhelming if you stop to think about it too long. The best advice I've received to manage this feeling of vertigo is to focus day by day and put one foot in front of the other. I think that's pretty good advice. Slowly but surely you finish one thing after another. A big part of it was getting this website built and live. Which it is! We've put a lot of love and care into explaining what Red Clover Ranch is, where it came from, and what we offer. We hope you check it out, stay a while, and explore our slice of the world.

In other news, we are moving slowly but surely towards the end of construction. It's been a long road to get here. It all started with deciding where to place the buildings around the barn and where to put the cabin area. Building in a hilly area means there is no obvious building site. It affords you the opportunity to really think about how buildings sit in harmony with the topography, but can also be a mind-bending puzzle. The cabin area had 2 other sites until we settled on its current location. It sits halfway up the ridge overlooking our valley, there is always a breeze, and the sunset view is excellent.

Another tool I've used to help manage the feeling of project vertigo is creating what I call 'North Star moments'. They keep me motivated and dedicated. One of these is thinking about guests sitting on the screened-in porch of the bathhouse (big building above) at night: the party lights on, a deep conversation being had, or a game of cards being played, maybe someone is playing guitar. Being held by the night and nature that surrounds you. Nowhere to go but where you are.
