Dispatch from the Ranch: Plein Air Painting Retreats w/ Leslie Baum + Early Bird Discount!
Hello Friends,
One of the great joys of sharing Red Clover Ranch is witnessing this land through the eyes of our guests. That’s one of the reasons I am delighted to announce the The Land Is Our Teacher, Leslie Baum’s plein air painting retreats in early-August.
In the 1880s, Van Gogh, Seurat, and others in their circle painted together en plein air along the Seine River. During these shared, social outings, they developed radical new approaches to painting and learned from one another. Since opening our doors, we’ve continued this collaborative tradition by hosting plein air painting retreats with Leslie.
Leslie is a gifted painter and teacher. Her work is an embodiment of who she is and how she sees the world—not in black and white, but through countless micro-tones and subtle shifts. Last year we sat down to discuss the art of observation on our podcast and it’s a fascinating discussion (you can listen to it here). The unglaciated land Red Clover sits on in the Driftless, with all of its idiosyncrasies and quiet natural wonders, is the perfect setting for her retreats. As Leslie says, “The land is blessed with beautiful atmospherics and an expansive sky, and provides painters with endless inspiration.”
This summer, follow in the footsteps of those bold and convivial artists that met at the Seine, join us for this spirit-renewing retreat, and immerse yourself in the land’s many moods, sights, and sounds. This years’s retreat dates are July 30th–August 2nd or August 6th–9th.
Also—bonus! We are offering a 10% discount if you sign up before February 1st.
